The story is character-driven and the main focus of the book is Marinka’s character arc. Tying in the themes of loneliness, friendship, death and grief the story takes the reader on a poetic and original journey full of intrigue and genuine emotion. The House With Chicken Legs is, ultimately, a story about belonging. But when she makes a bad decision that affects her Baba Yaga and their house, Marinka’s life is thrown into chaos and she must choose where she truly belongs. Marinka has always known that this would be her destiny too one day, but she has other ideas.ĭesperate to live her own life and find freedom away from guiding the dead, Marinka takes every opportunity to leave the house and find living friends. The house travels across the world so that Baba Yaga can meet the dead, hear their stories and guide them through The Gate.
